Many people attempt to lose weight through dieting and increased exercise but they often see little to no lasting results. They might lose a few pounds and then quickly regain the weight, leaving them frustrated and ready to give up. If this sounds familiar then you may want to consider a specialized weight loss program that includes a prescription weight loss medication. Weight loss medications can significantly improve your chances of reaching your goals but they should always be used under a doctor’s supervision and in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Many times they are also combined with a non-surgical weight loss procedure like ESG or a gastric balloon for even better results.

With the wide range of medications available, it is easy to become confused about which one would be the best choice. Dr. Simmons focuses on individualized care and takes the time necessary to ensure an individualized plan is crafted just for you that considers your needs and circumstances.

How Weight Loss Meds Work

Weight loss medications work by helping to optimize your digestive process and by altering the messages that your brain receives regarding satiety. These medications mimic hormones that are naturally made and released by your body during the digestive process called GLP-1 and GIP.

GLP-1
GLP-1 helps regulate how efficiently your body digests food and burns calories so they are not stored as fat, and they are responsible for sending signals to your brain indicating that you are feeling full and satisfied and do not need to eat.
GIP
GIP works synergistically with GLP-1 to further enhance fat burning and regulate insulin secretion. GIP helps improve glucose metabolism by stimulating the pancreas to release insulin when blood sugar levels are elevated after meals.

What Is The Process For Getting
Weight Loss Medication?

1
Schedule Your Initial Consultation
To get started, you will book a face-to-face or virtual consultation with Dr. Simmons.  You will discuss your medical history, current health conditions, and your weight loss goals. Dr. Simmons will talk with you about the available options for weight loss medication and which one may be the best fit for you. Depending on the type of medication recommended, Dr. Simmons may require you to have some blood work done for his review.
2
Quick Follow-Up To Review Your Bloodwork
Once the results of your blood work are ready, you will have a follow-up appointment with Dr. Simmons to go over the results. You will discuss the details of how to use the medication that is recommended for you, including how to administer it, how often to take it, the dose you will be taking, and tips to use it safely and get the best results.
3
Begin Using Your Medication
Your prescription will be sent to the pharmacy of your choice, such as Walgreens or CVS, and you will pick it up and either pay for it using your insurance or out of pocket depending on the circumstances. You will begin using the medication according to the instructions provided to you by Dr. Simmons and will attend a follow up appointment after about three weeks to check on your progress and make adjustments if needed.
4
Begin Your Weight Loss Commitment
You will need to commit to using the medication as prescribed and participate in all your follow-up appointments so Dr. Simmons can monitor your results and make adjustments as needed.
